About Kayee

Kayee is a fine art photographer born and raised in Hong Kong, currently living in France. She creates works by assembling her self-portraits to explore human relationships. Her favourite subject is the paradox between our desire for a fusional bond and our need to remain an individual. She attempts to offer a critical, offbeat and sometimes poetic look on the way we relate to each other.

Characters staged in her portraits range from complete strangers, coworkers, family members to some forms of deity. They often struggle to balance between societal expectations and their desire to be themselves. Out of phase with the pursuit of an appearance of cohesion, they seem to be constantly wondering who they are supposed to be.

Her main body of work consists of an on-going series entitled “Visual Guide to Social Life.” Other series are specific spin-offs from this core theme.

Her works have been exhibited in Paris, Venice, Rome, Berlin, Glasgow and Hong Kong, as well as collected in private collections in Hong Kong, Western Europe and the US.
